Conscious Selling

Sales, as we know it, as never really talked about consciousness! All of the traditional models are giving us a multitude of tricks and tactics to influence and close deals! Science, via psychology has, of course, made its way into this profession to understand the human psyche, yet the end goal always remained the same: Sell, close, win deals and make money!

Is there all there is to sales? Meeting revenue goals, scaling the business for more profits, etc. Of course, this is generalizing, yet not that much for too many people and businesses out there! How about we accomplish all that as a by-product of Conscious Selling! How would every encounter and the world be better off, when we shift the traditional model on its head, to start with a complete different intention!? One anchored in love and service!

As part of a Masterclass on Conscious Selling that I’m wrapping up, I tackle a few subjects such as Intention, Energy, Inner Growth, the Law of Attraction. Let’s discuss the very first one, that is, in my opinion, the fundamental aspect of conscious selling: Intention (and the law of attraction).

Intention

It is not rare that when I asked people why they are getting into sells or have entered sales, the answer I get is : “to help people”! Many will also be telling me that it’s for money or the flexibility of the hours, career advancement, etc. While the first one is an honourable answer, somehow it’s getting lost not long after the boot hits the ground for salespeople. How so? Well, that could be another blog post on its own, but for now let’s leave the question up in the air for leaders! What culture are you creating so that such a beautiful intention loses its power?

Your success & happiness depend much more on your thoughts and intentions! Let’s say you enter a conversation (selling conversation or coaching conversation or any conversation as a matter of fact), with the intention to cash in on that big fat commission by closing that deal! One could think: “I can finally get that beautiful watch that I always dreamed of!” What happens in this instance?

1- This very intention does not carry any vibes of service, care and service for the individual you are dealing with! It could only serve you! The result might be less presence in the conversation, being too pushy for something they might not need after all, or anything that will definitely not bring you to the hall of fame of salespeople!

2- Your relinquishing your happiness to a material possession! In this instance, I’m using a watch because I’ve been through this, but it could be anything else! House, car, vacation, etc. I’m not saying it’s not okay to possess these things, I love a beautiful watch, but for God’s sake do not fall into this hedonistic trap! You’re a beautiful soul, that is meant to live a eudaimonic life! To love & offer your gifts for a better good will always triumph over that next shiny thing.

PS: The same principal happens to you, sales leaders, when you engage with your team! If the intention of your next coaching conversation is to teach a lesson, or showcase your talent, how will that be received versus: Let me help this person grow, become a better salesperson in order for them to help others in return! There are circular economy and that is circular energy!

The Law of Attraction

That’s a hot topic! Books, seminars, courses, podcast, movies, coaching… you name it! It is out there for the law of attraction! Let’s keep it simple. Does it exist? Yes!

Hence, you’d better be careful with what you think, do and feel because you’d better believe it that it is what you will attract!

Pay close attention to this, you’ll see how it operates. Here is an example. I’ve often coach sales people that were into a bit of a rut. You know when things are not going for you! After a 15 minutes, 30 minutes call I would let them go to their day. Their manager of director would call me later on and say: “What did you do with this person, they closed a deal today”!

You might think that I did some role play with them, or focused on one part of their process that they haven’t mastered yet, listen to a call… Nope! None of that, sorry! All I did was to reframe their state of mind! Perhaps give another perspective on a false belief that they hold and give them a renew sense of hope and meaning!

“The real work is ruling your mind and emotions!”

So, what are your intentions? Is it time to renew them for a more positive and uplifting encounter? Let’s try that for a change, and see what you attract!
